‘Future Man,’ From Seth Rogen and Starring Josh Hutcherson, Ordered to Series at Hulu

Hulu is headed to the future with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Josh Hutcherson.

The streaming service has handed out a series order to Future Man, a 13-episode half-hour comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with a cast boasting Josh Hutcherson and Eliza Coupe.

Rogen and Goldberg (Sausage Party, This Is the End, Preacher, Superbad), Matt Tolmach (Spider-Man, Jumanji, Rock That Body) and James Weaver (This Is the End, Neighbors, Preacher) exec produce the comedy that follows a janitor by day/gamer by night who is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity.

The series was written by executive producers Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter (Sausage Party, The Night Before) and Howard Overman, with the teleplay by Shaffir and Hunter. Future Man marks the first half-hour television comedy from Rogen and Goldberg, who directed the pilot from Sony Pictures Television.

Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, The Kids Are Alright) stars as Josh Futterman, an uninspired and dejected gamer who quickly becomes earth’s unlikely hero. Hutcherson also serves as a producer on the series and stars opposite Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings), Derek Wilson (Rogen and Goldberg’s AMC drama Preacher), Ed Begley Jr. (St. Elsewhere) and Glenne Headly (Don Jon).

For Hulu, Future Man joins a growing roster of scripted comedies including Golden Globe nominee Casual, The Mindy Project and Difficult People — all of which are produced by outside studios.

Josh Hutcherson to Make Directorial Debut

Josh Hutcherson is taking on his first directing project with a short film called Ape!

The 23-year-old Hunger Games actor will also star in the piece about “a schizophrenic man battling lifelong demons,” Variety reports.

Josh’s film is one of five projects featured in his Indigenous Media film incubator project with Conde Nast Entertainment, which is designed to find the best unproduced screenplays featuring teen and young adult characters.
