“Red Dawn” picked up by FilmDistrict

L.A. Times is reporting that Josh’s remake of “Red Dawn” has been picked up for distribution by FilmDistrict, and the even better news – it’s nearly confirmed for a 2012 release date!

The new version of the Reagan-era classic will be released in the U.S. by independent studio FilmDistrict, according to people familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly. FilmDistrict is finalizing a deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the studio that produced the movie in 2009.

In the original “Red Dawn,” a group of teenagers in a Washington town battle invading Soviet forces; in the remake, the invaders were changed to Chinese. But that decision turned the film into a hot potato.

After MGM emerged from bankruptcy in late 2009 and decided it wouldn’t release the movie, no other studio wanted to touch “Red Dawn” for fear of offending the government of China, a hugely important market in the increasingly global film business. Read more at the source.

Josh and Liam featured in September issue of ‘Seventeen’ Magazine

Scan and transcript courtesy of JHutcherson.net. Josh’s “Hunger Games” co-star Liam Hemsworth, who plays Gale Hawthrone, was also included in the September issue.

This Kentucky boy is unfailingly polite, tight with his family, and a complete sucker for romance. Are you in love yet?

We want to ask you the same thing we asked Liam: If you guys were fighting over a girl, who would win?
Let’s be honest, his Australian accent kills it. It’s an unfair advantage! I’d give the lady points straight to Liam. Liam is epic, man.

[Seventeen asked Liam, “In The Hunger Games, your character and Josh Hutcherson’s character fight for the same girl. Who would win in real life?!?” Liam said, ‘Josh is a pretty charismatic dude, so he’d probably win. I’m not that good at talking to girls! Honestly, he’s persuasive. I listen to him talk a lot, and he’s smart, he’s funny… He could convince me to do anything!’]

In Hunger Games, your character is totally in love with Katniss, even when she’s cold to him. Can you relate?
I feel like every relationship I get into ends up being like that! I’m someone who can fall in love at the drop of the hat. My parents raised me to be very accepting of other people, so because of that, I feel like I might be overly accepting of girls. If a girl shows any interest, I’m like, ‘Yes! I love you, you’re amazing!’

Well what about your Journey 2 costar, Vanessa Hudgens? You’re dating, right?
Oh, boy. I don’t kow if ‘dating’ is the right word. She’s awesome. We love being together. When I first met her, we just really hit it off. We could be goofy and silly and not worry about anything except having fun. I adore her.

Do you have a ‘type’?
I like girls I can have deep conversations with. The meaning of life and existence – you can go on forever about that stuff. When girls play the ditzy-dumb thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, God, please stop.’

“The perfect date is going to the beach, sitting under the stars, and listening to music. The cliches are cheesy, but I love them!“
